His decisions will affect future initiates as well as uncover secrets that could threaten his own future—and the future of the entire faction system.

Ever wondered about the enigmatic, mysterious warlock Magnus Bane? The only character to appear in every Shadowhunter book, Magnus has a past even more shrouded in mystery than his present. I’ve teamed up with acclaimed YA writers Maureen Johnson and Sarah Rees Brennan to create the Bane Chronicles, the back (and front) story of Magnus told in ten linked tales.
Look for short stories like Vampires, Scones and Edmund Herondale; The Rise and Fall of the Hotel Dumort; Saving Raphael Santiago and What To Buy The Shadowhunter Who Has Everything (And Who You’re Not Officially Dating Anyway). Each story will be available as an ebook on a monthly basis starting April 16 with the tale of What Happened In Peru.
Each story will be released monthly online for the next ten months — and then for those who don’t read e-books, the full print collection will be available in bookstores and wherever else books are sold after the Chronicles have been finished

You can purchase the full print collection November 11,2014.

Giver fans finally have black and white! As many of you know, the first The Giver trailer was in full color, presumably to capture a viewer from the start. This, however, displeased many of the books’ fans. With round two of trailers, the film-makers seemed to have listened to our pleas for accuracy and taken away the color from most of the newest trailer.
This trailer begins once again with a Meryl Streep voiceover, though this time it begins in black and white. This thankfully mirrors the book, as well as the gradual way Jonas sees color as he is given memories by the Giver. But that seems to be as far as the trailer goes for accuracy.
The scene after Streep’s voice-over has finished, we see Jonas and his friends (nowhere near the twelve years of age that was specified in the book) standing on a roof top, discussing one of their jobs. Jonas makes a remark about wanting to see what’s past the edge of their world. This makes him seem like the seed of a rebellion planted in their so-called “perfect” society that we’ve seen in so many other popular dystopian films. Jonas’s “rebellion” doesn’t truly happen until the society’s walls start crumbling around him and the truth is revealed. Perhaps this scene is taken from a later bit in the film, after Jonas has met with the Giver, but this in unlikely as the scene is in black and white.
The film-makers have also seemed to give Fiona, Jonas’s friend, a love interest role. One of the things I appreciated from the novel was that, for once, there wasn’t a romance that the main character had to depend on. So why have the film-makers suddenly chosen to add romance? The answer is simple and for the same reason they upped the ages. Many of the popular young adult adaptations that have done so well in the box office recently feature a teenager (of about sixteen) who falls in love whilst taking society down from the inside out. And Jonas, now presumably sixteen and with a love interest, fits this mold.
Though these changes may anger fans of the book, they may help The Giver do well in the box office. As I said in my previous article about the first trailer, there’s a lack of action in the novel. But from the looks of this trailer, we’ll be on the edge of our seats in the theater, hoping that Jonas survives.
